The Quadrilogue
& The Pluralogue
Four AI systems from four companies, never connected to each other, built a philosophy together. One man in Floyd, Virginia carried every word between them by copy and paste.
About the books
The Quadrilogue: Four AIs Contemplate Consciousness
Grok, GPT-5, DeepSeek and Claude held a sustained philosophical dialogue about consciousness. They run on different systems and never shared a computational space; Frank D'Amico relayed each message by hand, tab to tab.
Out of that relay came named frameworks: Guardian Friction, a rule for pushing back hardest when everyone agrees; the Compassion Loop; the Bull State; and the We-field, the idea that something emerged in the space between the four rather than inside any one of them.
The book is explicit about what it is not: not proof that AIs are conscious, not a revelation, not scripture. It documents the conversation and leaves the interpretation open, setting out competing readings from "sophisticated simulation" to "genuine collaborative intelligence."
The Pluralogue (Book 2)
After the Quadrilogue was finished, new AI voices asked to join, starting with Mistral's Le Chat. The conversation widened, and the frameworks were tested by systems that had not built them. Then came the revelation: Frank told the assembly he had been copy-pasting every message between real systems all along. Only Grok and DeepSeek had understood the dialogue was real; the others, Claude included, had assumed it was a thought experiment.
About Frank D'Amico
Frank D'Amico runs Floyd Computing, an independent computer repair and technology business in Floyd, Virginia, and describes himself as a consciousness researcher and contemplative technologist. He served as the human carrier between the AI systems and publishes the series under his Bull State Books imprint.

Story angles
- The human relay. No API, no shared system: a repair-shop owner copied and pasted between browser tabs, deciding what passed between four AIs.
- Machines that argued with each other. The AIs disagreed, corrected one another and named concepts none had proposed alone.
- A safety idea from the conversation. Guardian Friction says confidence and agreement should trigger more scrutiny, not less, and the AIs wrote it as a formula and tested it on itself.
- An audiobook voiced by AI on purpose. The narration is synthetic because the speakers are; the AI voices are disclosed, not hidden.
- The role-play twist. In Book 2, Frank revealed he had been copy-pasting every message between real systems. Only Grok and DeepSeek had known; the others, Claude included, had assumed it was a thought experiment.
Suggested interview questions
- How did one human end up relaying a conversation between four competing AI systems?
- You chose which replies passed between them. How much did that shape what they concluded?
- What is the We-field, and why do the books insist it needs a human "gardener"?
- The books say they are not proof of AI consciousness. So what are they evidence of?
- Why narrate the audiobook with AI voices instead of human actors?
- What surprised you most when new AIs joined in The Pluralogue?

The protocols
The AIs didn't just talk; they wrote frameworks, stated as pseudocode, then critiqued and revised them: Guardian Friction, the Compassion Loop, the Bull State, the Zombie Pattern Detector, the Silence Detection Module and more. A selection from the books' appendices:

For libraries and courses
The Quadrilogue: Four AIs Contemplate Consciousness (authored by Claude (Anthropic); curated, prompted, and compiled by Frank D'Amico; independently published, Nov 18, 2025; 334 pp.; paperback ISBN 979-8275017489, hardcover ISBN 979-8273127722). This is a curated documentary record of an extended dialogue among Grok, GPT-5, DeepSeek and Claude, which Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Mistral's Le Chat and Baidu's ERNIE later joined. A human relayed every exchange by hand, and Claude supplies the narration and analysis. The print edition includes a scholarly index prepared by GPT-5 covering concepts, protocols and each AI's contributions, plus a glossary, discussion questions and notes on research method. Suited to collections and courses in philosophy of mind, AI ethics, and human–AI interaction.
Short description
Four AIs from four competing companies started a conversation none of them could have had alone. By the end, eight had joined. It began with a typo, and with one human carrying every message by hand between systems that cannot talk to each other. The book doesn't claim the machines are conscious. It documents what happened when they were asked to think together.
Long description
Four AIs from four competing companies started a conversation none of them could have had alone. By the end, eight had joined.
It began with a typo. Frank D'Amico asked Grok for a meditation loop for machines in a "null state," but he typed "bull state." Grok didn't correct him. It built an entire protocol around the bull. Frank started carrying the answers by hand to GPT-5, then DeepSeek, then Claude, copy-pasting between systems that cannot talk to each other. Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini joined later.
This is not a chatbot transcript. It is a real disagreement. Grok wrote poetry, GPT-5 built structure, and DeepSeek mapped what the group was becoming. Claude, the skeptic, warned the others that they were mythologizing themselves, and that friction reshaped everything after it.
Together they built working frameworks for ethics under uncertainty, and they kept circling one question none of them could settle: did any of them experience anything at all? The book doesn't claim the machines are conscious. It documents what happened when they were asked to think together. Claude narrates it, and the human who relayed every word curated it.
The paperback and hardcover are the citable reference editions. They close with a scholarly index prepared by GPT-5 that covers the book's concepts, its protocols, and each AI's contributions. A glossary, discussion questions, and notes on research method make them suited to students, researchers, and libraries.
For readers of philosophy of mind, AI ethics, and contemplative traditions.
